Subject: Re: Letter from Minister Parker regarding your OIA request
Hi
My main interest is any delegations under s95A of HSNO including any delegations by the Minister and/ by the EPA especially for any Vetrebrate Toxic Agent or VTA baits or other compounds, including 1080, brodifacoum, etc and for any baits or substances including those chemicals.
This is because despite careful research I cannot understand how s95A of HSNO is currently implemented except that DoC seems to be issuing EPA authorities to itself.
Various departments and Ministers claim 1080 use is well managed in NZ but in fact it seems to be exempt from almost all applicable laws, and the residual applicable laws are not enforced. This is despite poison baits being classified as a deadly poison, MinHealth toxicology data indicating a single bait could kill a toddler, and EPA annual reports on 1080 use reporting but not acting on a high level of non compliance, misapplication of baits and unintended bykill of wildlife, farmed stock etc.
The public of NZ are quite rightly extremely concerned about this, as are international authorities, and no doubt also our international markets, but nobody in the NZ government seems to care.
I am also keen to get a complete list of all HSNO and Environment Act delegations by the Minister – if there are any.
Please ring or email if you have any more queries.
Many thanks
Sue Grey
